Understanding Autism
Whether you work with autistic people, or if you or someone you know is autistic, this course can help increase knowledge and destigmatise autism.
Course Overview
Having a clear understanding of the misconceptions, diagnoses and support surrounding autism are just some of the essential skills needed when working in mental health. This course is also ideal for anyone who wants to understand more about neurodivergence and decrease misinformation around autism.
What you'll learn
This course is made up of six units:
- How autistic people process sensory information
- The characteristics that may be present in autistic individuals
- The conditions that commonly occur with autism
- Common misconceptions surrounding autism
- How speech, language and communication may differ in autistic people
- How legislation and guidance underpins support
Eligibility Criteria
- You must currently live in England
- You must have been resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years, for purposes other than study
- You must be over the age of 19
- You must not be on an apprenticeship
There is a £125 cancellation fee if you enrol and do not complete or withdraw from the course. This fee is to cover administration costs.

This course is funded by the government's Adult Education Budget, which means you may be able to study for free.

The duration of this course is seven weeks.
