Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are key predictors of challenges in later life. Understanding ACEs and working towards their prevention is crucial for younger generations.

Course Overview

Adverse childhood experiences can be direct, such as physical abuse, or indirect, for example the the divorce of parents. They have been shown to drastically impact a child's development, and can even lead to premature death. This course will give you the skills needed to support people with ACEs and help them overcome obstacles.

What you'll learn

This course is made up of three units:

  • Exploring childhood and family structures
  • Introduction to adverse childhood experiences
  • Developing strategies to improve outcomes for children affected by adverse childhood experiences

This course is particularly suited for anyone working to work in the education or care sector, but is valuable knowledge for any individual.

Eligibility Criteria
This course is government funded, you must meet the following criteria to be able to study for free:
  • You must currently live in England    
  • You must have been resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years, for purposes other than study    
  • You must be over the age of 19  
  • You must not be on an apprenticeship

There is a £125 cancellation fee if you enrol and do not complete or withdraw from the course. This fee is to cover administration costs.

This course is funded by the government's Adult Education Budget, which means you may be able to study for free.

How Long Is The Course?

The duration of this course is seven weeks.
