The Principles of End of Life Care

This course will give you the knowledge and understanding needed to care for patients approaching the end of their lives.

Course Overview

Britain has an ageing population - which means more people will live with serious chronic illnesses and need palliative and end of life care. When providing palliative and end of life care to individuals that are facing their last months, weeks or days of life, it's important to ensure we consider their wishes and act with compassion. This course is useful for people working in a wide range of care settings, including hospices, care homes, care in the community, and primary care.

What you'll learn

This course is made up of 6 units:

  • How to work in end of life care
  • Care planning in end of life care
  • How to provide support to manage pain and discomfort
  • End of life care and dementia
  • The role of the care worker in time of death
  • Loss and grief in end of life care
Eligibility Criteria
This course is government funded, you must meet the following criteria to be able to study for free:
  • You must currently live in England    
  • You must have been resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years, for purposes other than study    
  • You must be over the age of 19  
  • You must not be on an apprenticeship

There is a £125 cancellation fee if you enrol and do not complete or withdraw from the course. This fee is to cover administration costs.

This course is funded by the government's Adult Education Budget, which means you may be able to study for free.

How Long Is The Course?

The duration of this course is seven weeks.

We refer to our online courses as 'flexible learning' because they're designed to be completed around your work and home life commitments. All deadlines for your course will be shown in your online course platform once you are enrolled to help keep you on track.
