Principles of Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities

Working with people with learning disabilities, or interested in a career in the sector? This course will ensure your knowledge is up to date so that you can give the best support possible.

Course Overview

Key to the Health and Social Care sector are those who assist people with learning disabilities. This course covers a wide range of conditions, as well as an in-depth coverage of the legislation you will likely come across in a care career.

This Level 2 course will ensure your knowledge is up to date and is primarily for those within healthcare and social care but may also be useful to those working in education or housing support roles.

What you'll learn

This course is made up of six units:

  • The context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities
  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • Introduction to personalisation in social care knowledge
  • Principles of positive risk-taking for individuals with disabilities
  • Introductory awareness of autistic spectrum conditions
  • Principles of supporting individuals with a learning disability to access healthcare
Eligibility Criteria
This course is government funded, you must meet the following criteria to be able to study for free:
  • You must currently live in England    
  • You must have been resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years, for purposes other than study    
  • You must be over the age of 19  
  • You must not be on an apprenticeship

There is a £125 cancellation fee if you enrol and do not complete or withdraw from the course. This fee is to cover administration costs.

This course is funded by the government's Adult Education Budget, which means you may be able to study for free.

How Long Is The Course?

The duration of this course is seven weeks.
