Mental Health in the Early Years

During the critical period of a child's early years, their experiences can influence their future mental health. Understand the potential traumatic experiences which can affect a child, and how to provide support.

Course Overview

Whether you're involved in working with young children or just have a keen interest in the subject, it's crucial to acknowledge the importance of a child's emotional well-being.

You will learn about statutory requirements that are needed in early years settings, including the vital role of the key person in supporting children.

What you'll learn

This course is made up of three units:

  • Mental health for young children in the early years
  • The significance of attachment and adverse childhood experiences for young children in the early years
  • The role of the Early Years Practitioner supporting mental health and wellbeing for young children in the early years

This would be particularly useful in a career in nursery work, teaching assistance or as a learning mentor.

Eligibility Criteria
This course is government funded, you must meet the following criteria to be able to study for free:
  • You must currently live in England    
  • You must have been resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years, for purposes other than study    
  • You must be over the age of 19  
  • You must not be on an apprenticeship

There is a £125 cancellation fee if you enrol and do not complete or withdraw from the course. This fee is to cover administration costs.

This course is funded by the government's Adult Education Budget, which means you may be able to study for free.

This course is accredited by NCFE CACHE, a leading educational charity with over 170 years experience. NCFE is recognised by the UK Department for Education and regulated by Ofqual.

How Long Is The Course?

The duration of this course is seven weeks.

We refer to our online courses as 'flexible learning' because they're designed to be completed around your work and home life commitments. All deadlines for your course will be shown in your online course platform once you are enrolled to help keep you on track.

This course would be important for job roles such as: Teaching Assistant (£11,500 to £23,000) Nursery Worker (14,000 to £24,000) Learning Mentor (£14,500 to £25,000)
