Counselling Skills

Many people find it helpful to seek counselling at some point in their lives, and counsellors help with a wide range of issues. Learn about the core skills in counselling during this course

Course Overview

If you're interested in supporting people to improve their well-being, this course will provide you with the correct understanding, knowledge and skills to do that.

You will also be taught about counselling theory and the ethical framework that informs how counsellors use their skills.

What you'll learn

This course is made up of four units:

  • How core counselling skills can be used in a counselling relationship and in other helping activities
  • How counselling theory underpins the use of counselling skills
  • How the ethical framework informs your own use of counselling skills
  • How to develop skills and qualities in the future

This course is delivered at an introductory level and is designed to provide a foundation level of knowledge in counselling skills. Further study would be required to practice as a qualified counsellor, including in-person placements.

Eligibility Criteria
This course is government funded, you must meet the following criteria to be able to study for free:
  • You must currently live in England    
  • You must have been resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years, for purposes other than study    
  • You must be over the age of 19  
  • You must not be on an apprenticeship

There is a £125 cancellation fee if you enrol and do not complete or withdraw from the course. This fee is to cover administration costs.

This course is funded by the government's Adult Education Budget, which means you may be able to study for free.

This course is accredited by NCFE CACHE, a leading educational charity with over 170 years experience. NCFE is recognised by the UK Department for Education and regulated by Ofqual.

How Long Is The Course?

The duration of this course is seven weeks.

We refer to our online courses as 'flexible learning' because they're designed to be completed around your work and home life commitments. All deadlines for your course will be shown in your online course platform once you are enrolled to help keep you on track.

Once you have registered interest you will be directed to an "Complete Enrolment Link" on our Thank You page. 

This link redirects you to our partners, Learning Curve Group. Fill out their pre-check form, this will verify that you are eligible for government funding (FREE).

Create An Account With Learning Curve

Create an account with Learning Curve, this will allow you to manage your application and receive future updates regarding the course you wish to enrol in.

We would advise using the same email used in both step 1&2.

Complete Online Form for FREE Enrolment 

This form is made up of 8 sections (We are sorry), this is required as it will enable you to enrol for FREE and get access to the course!

Before you complete the Online Enrolment Form, please make sure you have the following documents and information ready:

  • Your National Insurance number
  • One of the following, a scanned copy or photo of your identification document, for example, Passport OR Birth Certificate OR Driving Licence etc (Bus passes and Work ID cards will not be accepted as a valid form of identification)
  • Your employment details and supporting employment documents, for example this could be, a wage slip OR a P60 etc.
  • If you are unemployed, instead of a wage slip please upload evidence of benefits
  • If you are a care leaver, please upload a signed email/letter confirming a local authority appointed personal advisor
  • Details of your previous qualifications
